Henri's Christmas Tree

I'm working on yet another project! I'm attempting to make this felt Christmas tree for Hendrix.

There is no pattern, so I'm winging it. Here's what I have so far...

This is as far as I have gotten. I need to get down stairs and get some house cleaning done, so this is it for today!

Happy Thanksgiving! I am thankful for salvation through Jesus Christ, thankful for my family, for my church. Today I'm especially thankful for Hendrix. I spent time with him and his momma yesterday. Listening to him learning to talk and and play with his kitty cats (Mooshu and Sookie) is so fun to watch. I wish I could do it every day!

Two Projects Done

Yay!...they're done!

Another Day of Sewing!

This is going "way" too slow for me!...don't know why everything seems to take me so long to complete...lol...I've finished a "teeny baby" and this morning I'm working on the sling for this one. I know I'm supposed to be making them to sell...but I think Hendrix will end up with this one...tee hee...

Also working on some training pants for Hendrix. I had them completed yesterday, but really didn't like the look of the elastic on the waist...so, I took it off and I'm going to get them put back together this afternoon.

I have so much more fabric to make many more. I just want to get the hang of getting these sewn up quicker...I love the monster fabric!

So, on another note, I'm still stuck on Proverbs 3:5...Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding. It seems to be lodged in my brain these days...hmm...think I should really pay attention!

"lean not unto thine own understanding"...to rely on my own intellect and/or experience more than I rely on God. I know He wants me to use my heart and my head, but, I'm limited in my understanding compared to Almighty God. So, I must fully trust in God's wisdom, knowledge, direction for my life...

Slowly But Surely

Slowly But Surely....

I can't believe it's been over 20 days since I last posted something...ugh! I have worked on some dolls, but not a lot of progress...

I think I have four 16" dolls cut out (two sewn together) and six 9" dolls cut out (two sewn together). And, I just got a new pattern for a 19" doll that I'm pretty excited about.

I'm having a hard time focusing on what to work on. I want to make some training pants for Hendrix with this pattern...
(couldn't get a good pic w/o the glare!)

I have made a couple with different patterns, but can't seem to get one that I'm satisified with that fits just right. I'm also working on a couple of throw pillows for my sister. I had to stop midway...I'm actually making new covers for the ones she has. I only brought one home and while taking them apart decided to use the original piping....so, I have to get the other pillow from her to finish.

And finally, AmyLyn and I went to Ikea a couple of weekends ago and got Hendrix some new linens for his toddler bed and furniture for toy storage. We accidentally bought two sets of a duvet cover and pillow case...we meant to get a set of sheets too. So, rather than make the long trip back we decided to turn one set into a sheet for the bed and a valance/curtain for the window.

For some reason I'm feeling a little scattered lately...lol. And the verses from Proverbs 3:5-6 have been on my mind.

5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart
And do not lean on your own understanding.
6 In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He will make your paths straight.

It's such a "well known" passage that most of the time I don't slow down enough to really take it to heart. So, I'm really asking God to "break it down" for me and make it more real to me on a daily basis.

The Hebrew word “batah” has the meaning of “reliance on” with the inner result of a feeling of well-being and security

So, today, I'm going to work on that...meditate on that...fully relying on God!!

Elliot

Elliot

He's just about finished!...yay!!! Just a little more hair (too flat on top) and some snaps or buttons on his shirt. Oh, and a little blush on his cheeks. Hendrix will be able to get him this weekend when he comes to stay with Papa and Mimi!

Now it's time to get started on making the dolls to sell. I have eight or nine dolls of varying sizes cut out. And bought some cute fabric for little dresses. My sister and I decided to start out with names from the bible for all the "children"...tee hee!

Grandchildren are the crown of the aged, and the glory of children is their fathers. Proverbs 17:6

I never knew how much I would love being a grandmother. Hendrix is truely a blessing from God!

“Only take care, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things that your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. Make them known to your children and your children's children— Deuteronomy 4:9

Elliot

Elliot

Not the greatest picture, but here he is so far. I haven't been able to work on him again until today. He's got two rows of hair now. I'm not going to show his bald spot!

I really didn't stuff his body enough. I might try to open him up and add some more wool to his chest and tummy.

And this one is just for fun! I couldn't resist Hello Kitty...how old am I??? I really do like the little tennis shoes I found at Target.

I've been busy with other things and haven't been able to sew much. I have two 16" dolls, two 9" dolls and four or five 6" dolls cut out. I also cut out some little pants and a shirt for Elliot. I was hoping to get to some of this today, but had other obligations that had to be taken care of.

Hopefully by the next time I post Elliot will have all of his hair and clothes! Have a good weekend!

Be sure to tell your family and friends how much you love and appreciate them today.

New Doll

Hello,

I've been working on a new doll. This one is for Hendrix and his name is Elliot. It's long overdue and I'm still trying to get back into the "doll making groove". I really need practice attaching the head and limbs with nice, even stitches.

I'm using a Waldorf pattern but added 1/2" all the way around the pattern pieces. I wanted a chunkier baby! It's going pretty good, although, I think his belly needed a little more stuffing.

I'm adding pictures to this post. I took some with the altered pattern pieces and as I was cutting out the body fabric. However, I didn't have my camera with me and had to take them with my phone. For some reason I cannot send, receive or remove pictures from my phone right now...ugh! So, here's where I'm at right now.

I'm still trying to decide what hairstyle and clothes to make. I would like for the hair to be as close to Henrdrix's as possible...we'll see! I added a couple of eyelashes since Henri has some dark, full lashes himself.

I bought some cute baby tennis shoes from Target this weekend and I'm thinking about corduroy pants..maybe...or a pair of jeans. Any ideas??

This next doll is one that was made for my great nephew, Nolen, for his first birthday. I actually made one before this one but wasn't really happy with it as a doll for him. To me, it was too skinny and I wanted it to look more like an infant.

Nolen's doll:

First attempt:

I wasn't crazy about the hair and it looked more like a girl. Which, I ended up doing by putting the hair up in pigtails and a girly outfit!!

That's it for today. I hope you all have a good week!

P.S. Getting Started

Hi, my name is Robin, this is the first time blogging for me. I have no clue what I'm doing yet but my goal is to journal about sewing Waldorf style dolls and clothing for little boys. My plans are to eventually open an Etsy store to sell the dolls. And the clothes are for my adorable, sweet two year old grandson.

I've been sewing dolls for many years; starting out with patterns from http://www.caroleecreations.com/. My daughter introduced me to Waldorf dolls a couple of years ago (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waldorf_doll)...then Bamboletta dolls (https://bamboletta.com/) . I love them!

To me, there aren't enough cute, cool, modern clothes on the market for little boys and even less when it comes to patterns to make them. Although, I am finding some creative blogs with tutorials and/or patterns for making some of what I am looking for...http://prudentbaby.com/2011/07/baby-kid/make-for-baby-boy-25-of-the-cutest-coolest-free-tutorials-for-boys-clothing-2/http://thismamamakesstuff.com/tutorial-slim-slack-for-boys/, and http://shwinandshwin.blogspot.com/2012/05/tabby-pocket-shorts-boys-summer.html.

I'm married to my best friend and high school sweetheart, Nathan. We've been married for 29 years and have two adult children. We have the cutest...sweetest grandson, Hendrix. I had no idea how much I would love being a grandmother, or Mimi, to this little guy. He is a thoughtful, quiet little man that I wish I could see every day!

My family is such an important part of my life. My mother, Audrey, taught me to sew when I was nine years old. You name it, my mom could make it on her Singer sewing machine...including a boat topper that my sister and I helped feed through the machine! Growing up she always made my sister and I matching outfits for Christmas. I wore whatever my momma made...including one of my favorites, lt purple and white knickers with purple knee socks!! I was such a nerd!

I grew up making Barbie doll clothes for my sister and I and the rest, as they say, is history. I made most of my daughters clothes as an infant and toddler. I made attempts at sewing clothes for her older brother, but I wasn't too good at creating the things I wanted to make...little suits, dress pants and jeans.

My husband supports whatever I want to do and is a huge encouragement. My daughter, AmyLyn, is the inspiration for the dolls. She and her cousins loved getting them as little girls. I had not made many of them for several years and after her son was born she introduced me to Bamboletta dolls and asked me to make one like them for him. She and I share a true love for all things "dolls"! She's a great mommy to Henri and auntie to Nolen, who she keeps during the week for her cousin. She's going to have to help me better design this blog site...again....I don't have a clue.

My sister, Tami, is full of creative ideas....wish I could keep up with (sew) all of the concepts she comes up with! My son, Jeremy, like my husband, is very supportive. He taught himself to play the guitar as a young kid in junior high school. He's in a Christian rock band (https://www.facebook.com/threefoldchord).

I also have two older brothers and my husband is one of nine children. Combined we have a very large family that mean the world to me. I became a Christian as a teen (http://riverdalebaptistchurch.com/menu/id/17/Plan%20of%20Salvation). God has been so good to me and my family and for that I am so thankful!
